The Walt Disney Co. has been making ornate, very popular snow globes for decades, and they are showing no sign of slowing down in their production or popularity. Disney has embedded so many popular characters into American popular culture, like Mary Poppins, Winnie the Pooh, and The Little Mermaid. And they continue to do so with characters like Buzz Lightyear and the whole gang from Monsters, Inc.

As with any collectible, buy what you like. However, if you want to get started as a serious Disney collector, start buying new snow globes as they are released. For example, you can purchase a snow globe from last summer's Ratatouille for less than $80.

That may seem steep for a snow globe, but consider what many popular Disney snow globes go for on the secondary market at online auction houses. Snow globes featuring more popular characters are commonly purchased at two to three times their original retail value.

That is why it is best to start small, and start with the new releases. Disney snow globes will always be in demand, so if you start building your collection now at moderate prices, you can always trade or auction less-favored snow globes for the globes you most covet.
